The first Dyson upright was unsurprisingly the DC01 this was released in 1993 and was the first upright vacuum to not lose suction. In 1998 the second Dyson upright, the DC03 was released, it was lightweight and could lie flat to clean under furniture. For 1998 they introduced the All Floors with it's clutch system that enabled the brush bar to be switched on and off for different floor surfaces, it was also the first vacuum with a washable filter. In 2001 they improved the original Dual Cyclone technology into the Root Cyclone technology which replaced one large cyclone with several smaller ones increasing suction power by 45%. In 2005 the first upright vacuum to use a ball instead of fixed wheels was made. The dc17 dyson upright was produced in 2006 for the North American market, it has a bigger cleaner head, different bristle spacing and an extra stage of cyclonic separation designed for deeper pile carpets found in most American homes. With 2006 came the DC18 which shares a design with all of it's upright vacuum cleaners, exhaust air is directed up, away from the floor. This ensures dust on the floor isn't disturbed or blown into the air, leaving it to be removed by the machine and cutting down on airborne allergens. In 2008 comes the second generation Ball vacuum, the dc24, smaller than full-sized uprights by about one third. It was also the first Dyson upright with a handle that compresses for compact storage. Also released in 2008 was the DC25, another dyson upright using the ball.
Spares and accessories are available for all the current Dyson upright range as well as older models.
